News Release March 22

The British Columbia Conservative Party is pleased to announce its MLA candidate for Richmond-Queensborough is Kay Khilvinder Hale.

Residing in Richmond for nearly 30 years, Kay was born in Hong Kong. Since 2007 she has been a licensed Realtor with the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, working mainly in Richmond. Prior to that she was the owner operator of a management consultancy firm.

Hale attended elementary school in Hong Kong, studied in New York and London, eventually earning an MBA from Hong Kong University in 1976. Her father, a British citizen, served during World War II in Hong Kong and was held captive as a POW during the Japanese Occupation. Her mother was of Burmese descent. Along with her seven siblings, she grew up in a cosmopolitan environment and is fluent in English, Cantonese, Hindi and Punjabi.

“The endorsement of a fine candidate with deep family values, private-sector work experience and lots of community involvement is another sign that the B.C. Conservative Party will be competitive in numerous constituencies around the province,” said Corbin Mitchell, president of the Party.

Kay and her French Canadian mechanical engineer husband have two children and four grandchildren.

A supporter of local food initiatives, Kay volunteers in the summer months with harvesting fruit and vegetables from the back gardens of residents. She is on the board of the Richmond Garden Club.

“One of the reasons I decided to run for the BC Conservatives has to do with the hardships faced by low income seniors. The BC Conservatives have an innovative approach to one of the hardships, namely hospital parking fees, which has been a pet peeve of mine in recent years,” said Hale, looking forward to the Party’s announcement about their platform on this issue.

“An MLA must represent local concerns and the general failure of elected politicians to stand up for their constituents is a big reason why voter turnout is so low,” said Hale.

“On the Massey Tunnel versus Bridge debate, I am advocating for more public input on this decision. The concerns raised by Richmond about this project have continually been ignored throughout the consultation and assessment process,” said Hale.

“With good grassroots people like Kay coming forward to run for us, the prospects for our Party are looking better and better and that’s a good thing for the province too,” said Mitchell.
