News Release April 10

The British Columbia Conservative Party is pleased to announce that its MLA candidate for the Vancouver-Kingsway Electoral District is Charles Bae.

For the last five years Bae, 44, has worked in Vancouver’s booming film industry, currently acting in the science fiction television series “Man in the High Castle” that is filming its third season for the Amazon Prime network.

“The endorsement of a fine candidate with private-sector work experience is another sign the B.C. Conservative Party will be competitive in numerous constituencies,” said Corbin Mitchell, president of the Party.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Charles came to Canada with his family at three years of age. As he grew up he was a pioneer in the fledgling Korean community of Vancouver at the time, and a member of a tightly-knit group of families who wanted the opportunity to become hard working new Canadians.

Charles says, “I discovered that I have a real knack for languages.”

From an early age, Charles showed interest in the social sciences and a passion for improving the world for everybody. Following this passion led him to pursue a degree majoring in Political Science with a minor in Economics at UBC. Charles followed this up by studying Hebrew and Arabic at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as well as the University of Amman in Jordan. Charles then went on to teach English at universities in South Korea where for the better part of a decade he also hosted a live weekly radio talk show.

Returning to Vancouver in 2008 to make it his home, Charles says, “It’s important to think of legal and practical solutions to our housing crisis, as well as to pursue current energy projects but also to develop new options for the future, like geothermal and Thorium.”

“With good people like Charles coming forward to run for us, our prospects are looking better and that’s a good for the province too,” said Bob Bray, Campaign Manager.
